Description
Stage 3
The stage 3 course has an assumed knowledge of up to & including stage 2. The course teaches rigging, launching and recovery, sailing in different wind directions, sailing techniques, capsize recovery and theory. Upon achieving stage 3 sailors should have the ability to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.
Clothing and personal equipment.
If you have your own wet gear such as a buoyancy aid or wetsuit, we recommend you wear this as you know it fits and is comfortable. Suitable footwear is required to be worn while on the course, this could be wetsuit boots, wet shoes or old trainers. We do not allow flip flops and we do not recommend crocs.
If you don’t have your own kit, we can provide equipment for you whilst on your course, this can include wetsuits, spray tops and buoyancy aids. We do not provide footwear.
Even if the weather is overcast, we would recommend wearing sun cream, on hot & sunny days a sun hat & sunglasses is a good idea. Water bottles can be taken out to stay hydrated & there is a free water filling station on the dinghy park
The next step after stage 3 is to work towards stage 4, this will test knowledge from all previous stages. The course aims to refine all previous learnt skills, along with adding a better understanding of how a sail works in order rig a boat dependant on conditions and use. After completing stage 3 sailors are at an ability where they can attend races normally run by their local club. Any sailing that can be done between stage 3 and 4 will be beneficial due to the high standard of stage 4.
