Description

Stage 2

With stage 2 there is assumed prior basic knowledge and the ability of being able to sail to stage 1 standard. The content of the course includes basic sailing skills, collision avoidance and ropework. When the stage 2 has been achieved the participants will be able to tack and control boat speed and understand basic principles, achieving a range of sailing skills & knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor.

Clothing and personal equipment.

If you have your own wet gear such as a buoyancy aid or wetsuit, we recommend you wear this as you know it fits and is comfortable. Suitable footwear is required to be worn while on the course, this could be wetsuit boots, wet shoes or old trainers. We do not allow flip flops and we do not recommend crocs.

If you don’t have your own kit, we can provide equipment for you whilst on your course, this can include wetsuits, spray tops and buoyancy aids. We do not provide footwear.

Even if the weather is overcast, we would recommend wearing sun cream, on hot & sunny days a sun hat & sunglasses is a good idea. Water bottles can be taken out to stay hydrated & there is a free water filling station on the dinghy park

The next step is to work towards achieving stage 3, this  will test prior knowledge from stages 1 & 2 and progress your sailing ability. Learning manoeuvres such as coming alongside and man overboard along with sailing upwind effectively, the theory side goes into more depth.
