Youth Courses

Youth Sailing options -

We offer all the RYA youth stage 1 - 4   With the Picos we can do this within a group situation or in the Wayfarer with 1 to 1 tuition.  The Wayfarer courses are two day courses available on demand, whereas the Pico Programmes run from Monday to Friday for three hours a day, starting at 10.00am or 2.00pm and are designed to cater for all abilities, providing fun and racing experiences for complete novices through to students with RYA Stage 3 qualifications. The programmes also include enough tuition for students who apply themselves to be able to gain one of the following RYA qualifications (RYA Youth Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4).

Youth Sailors over 15 and already at RYA Stage 3 may wish to consider the 15+ Adult Programme, which is also five 3 hour sessions running from Monday morning to Friday morning.

Stage 1 - By the end of this introductory course, you will have a basic understanding of how a boat sails, and some experience of steering and handling the boat.

Stage 2 - By the end of this course, you will have a range of sailing skills and background knowledge, and be well on the way to being a confident small boat sailor.

Stage 3 - Having completed Stage 3 you will be able to sail in any direction and rig and launch your boat. Your skills and knowledge mean that you can regard yourself as a sailor, not a beginner.

Stage 4 - A Stage 4 certificate means that you have the skills to sail a double handed-boat as crew or helm, and solve a variety of problems afloat. Passing this course is the natural entry point for the advanced courses

Once completed the youth stages the progression is onto the advanced skills of the youth scheme that include seamanship course, sailing with spinakers, day sailing, performance sailing and start racing. Please contact the office if you require further information we normally recomend that the seamanship course is the best one to start with.
