Adult Courses
15+ Adult Sailing Programme (5 Mornings)
This programme is designed for sailors aged 15 or over, who already have RYA Youth Stage 3 or RYA Adult Level 1 qualifications, and are looking for a lively and exciting series of dinghy sessions in which to gain their next grade of qualification (for example RYA Youth Stage 4, Adult Level 2, Adult Level 3 Better Skills, Start Racing, or Seamanship). The course will contain one or more dinghies in a group, working with an instructor teaching from a following powerboat. Apart from the tuition there will be opportunities to race between the group or against other student groups. It will be run over 5 mornings from Monday to Friday, starting at 10.15 am and finishing at 1.15 pm. Prices are the same as for our two day courses, but this programme offers excellent value since it provides a total of 15 hours tuition and race practice. Students would normally use our Laser 2s, but may be able to use their own boat, a Pico or our Laser 2000 if agreed with us in advance.

All RYA dinghy courses are explained below -
Level 1 – starting point, course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. By the end of the course participants will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge it is recommended that all participants progress onto RYA Level 2.
Level 2 – on completion of this course, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds. It will be assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills of the Level 1.
Seamanship Skills – on completion of this course, the successful sailor will be capable of manoeuvring a dinghy / multihull in a seamanlike manner and making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions. It will be assumed that every student starting this course will have mastered the practical skills of the Level 2. As much as possible the work afloat will be done without the instructor aboard, the emphasis is on increasing the self reliance and decision making of the sailor.
Day Sailing – on completion of this course, the successful sailor will have a confident, safe approach to planning and executing a short cruise in a dinghy. It is assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the skills of the Level 2.
Sailing with Spinnakers – on completion of this course the successful sailor will understand how to sail a dinghy or multihull rigged with an asymmetric or symmetric spinnaker. It is assumed that student has already mastered the skills for Level 2.
Start Racing – this course is designed to give confidence, skills and knowledge in club racing in good conditions. Confidence is essential if the sailor is to enjoy racing, sailors get to try a range of enjoyable exercises designed to build confidence. Essential that Level 2 skills are mastered before commencing course.
Performance Course – limited availability, on completion of this course, the successful sailor will understand how to sail performance dinghies / multihulls in all wind conditions that they can expect to encounter. The emphasis is on coaching to improve candidates sailing performance, this will involve coaching from powerboats. Essential that Level 2 skills are mastered before commencing course.
Informal Tuition
We also offer hourly tuition on all of our boats, in one, two, or three hour sessions, and Wayfarer Dinghies can be rented by the hour
