POWER BOAT LEVEL 1

Introduction to boating techniques for launching & recovery a boat from a road trailer everyday boat handling & the use of safety equipment.

COURSE TYPE Planing Hull
SUGGESTED MINIMUM PRE-COURSE EXPERIENCE & AGE None. Age 12 +
ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE None.
COURSE CONTENT Launching & preparing the boat, basic boat handling & returning to shore. Background theory.
ABILITY AFTER COURSE Able to drive under supervision.
MINIMUM DURATION One day.

POWER BOAT LEVEL 2

Provides the skills & background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver & is the basic of the International Certificate of Competence. 90% of this course takes place on the water.

COURSE TYPE Planing Hull
SUGGESTED MINIMUM PRE-COURSE EXPERIENCE & AGE None. May be preceded by Level 1. Age 14+. 14 year olds cannot have the certificate endorsed until reaching 16 years old.
ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE None.
COURSE CONTENT All you need to know for self-sufficient powerboating at a basic level. Course includes launching, mooring, anchoring & recovery plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat.
ABILITY AFTER COURSE Self-sufficient powerboat in the right conditions, aware of own limitations & those craft.
MINIMUM DURATION Two days.

SAFETY BOAT

This two-day course provides the skill required when acting as an escort craft safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes or for racing or training activities. 90% of this course takes place on the water.

COURSE TYPE Planing Hull
SUGGESTED MINIMUM PRE-COURSE EXPERIENCE & AGE RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate must be held prior to the course.
ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE Basic understanding of sailing boats.
COURSE CONTENT Boat handling, rescue techniques for sailing dinghies, windsurfers & canoes, and tows.
ABILITY AFTER COURSE Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
MINIMUM DURATION Two days.
