Welcome to the Camel Sailing School
New for 2011 - Youth Sailing on our Pico Programme
(5 mornings or 5 afternoons)
Last year we introduced a 5 half day programme for children, which was a great success, so we have now invested in a fleet of Picos specifically for this activity (Picos are the yellow hulled dinghies in our web site photos). The Pico Programmes run from Monday to Friday for three hours a day, starting at 10.00am or 2.00pm and are designed to cater for all abilities, providing fun and racing experiences for complete novices through to students with RYA Stage 3 qualifications. The programmes also include enough tuition for students who apply themselves to be able to gain one of the following RYA qualifications (RYA Youth Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4).
Also new for 2011 – 15+ Adult Sailing Programme (5 Mornings)
This programme is designed for sailors aged 15 or over, who already have RYA Youth Stage 3 or RYA Adult Level 1 qualifications, and are looking for a lively and exciting series of dinghy sessions in which to gain their next grade of qualification (for example RYA Youth Stage 4, Adult Level 2, Adult Level 3 Better Skills, Start Racing, or Seamanship). The course will contain one or more dinghies in a group, working with an instructor teaching from a following powerboat. Apart from the tuition there will be opportunities to race between the group or against other student groups. It will be run over 5 mornings from Monday to Friday, starting at 10.15 am and finishing at 1.15 pm. Prices are the same as for our two day courses, but this programme offers excellent value since it provides a total of 15 hours tuition and race practice. Students would normally use our Laser 2s, but may be able to use their own boat, a Pico or our Laser 2000 if agreed with us in advance.
Two Day Youth and Adult RYA Courses are available on demand - We are still be doing our traditional Wayfarer, Hobie Cat, Laser 2and Laser 2000 courses as normal, as well the new 5 half day programmes listed above
Tasters and Dinghy Rentals are available by the hour
RYA Powerboat Courses
Apart from investing in new power boats for safety and instruction, we have just acquired "Cornish Calypso" which is a "state of the art" Valiant 5.7m RIB with a wide range of instrumentation and a 90 HP Mercury Eco Engine (supplied and maintained by Rock Marine Services). This RIB is used for tuition on our RYA Powerboat Courses which range from basic boat handling skills (RYA Level 1and 2), navigation and planning of passages (RYA Intermediate) and the RYA Advanced Powerboat qualification which teaches everything you require for safe passages in coastal waters, from VHF Radios and First Aid to night navigation. With the Intermediate course we can also provide an ICC assessment which qualifies you to rent some classes of power boats internationally.
Powerboat Tasters
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to drive a RIB, we offer taster sessions by the hour
Instructor Courses and Assistant Instructor Courses
We periodically run Instructor and Assistant Instructor courses and we already have names on a waiting list so get in fast if you want to become an RYA instructor.
